Obama’s Nobel Winnings Contest: We Have a Winner!

A couple of weeks ago, I posted a solicitation for readers to suggest to whom the president should give his Nobel Peace Prize winnings. With this topic having settled comfortably into the realm of the hackneyed (“take my Nobel, please”), I venture gingerly back onto the stage to award our own prize for best suggestion.

First a few comments: People, ACORN? I mean seriously. You’re not even trying. A better one, though clearly a softball: the national deficit.

More to my own biases were those contestants who have a principled hostility to a president who so little values others who strive to keep the peace, who work to make their own world a better place, and who fight for freedom wherever they are. In that vein, a shout out for the Free Burma Rangers, for charities raising money for victims of terror (Beslan was mentioned—and here, without prejudice or endorsement, is one group that supports victims of that attack), and for the Donate-for-Life organ donor program.

The winning entry, with the most votes and through a completely biased and unfair selection process (consisting of me and whoever stopped into my office), is the American soldier, and our military families who have made the greatest sacrifice. Robert McKenna was the first emailer to suggest the idea (Liz Cheney and Newt Gingrich have also weighed in with similar ideas).

Kudos to McKenna (and please send me via email your address so I can send your prize), and thank you to everyone game enough to compete. Let’s hope President Obama does the right thing with his winnings.

For the rest of you out there who would like to show your support for those who deserve the peace prize, the Army has a good list of organizations working to aid military families, active duty servicemen and women, and vets.
